TELL THE GOVERNMENT WE NEED STRONG FISHERIES ACT REGULATIONS

URGENT: The current Fisheries Act regulations – which are now open for public comment – will fail to give fish populations the best chance to rebuild.

Draft regulations were published for Canada’s Fisheries Act that set the elements for creating rebuilding plans to restore depleted fish populations. Add your name to help strengthen them for the benefit of healthy oceans and healthy fishing communities.

In 2019, Canada amended the Fisheries Act to require rebuilding plans for depleted commercial fish stocks. This was a big step for recovering fish populations and supporting thriving ocean ecosystems. Now, the regulations – which will determine how effective Canada’s Fisheries Act will be – fall far short, lacking direction on timelines and targets for rebuilding fish populations that have declined and not including all depleted stocks. Without these, history shows that collapsed fish populations will have little chance to recover.

Your voice is urgently needed.

Add your name and tell the Canadian government you care about healthy oceans, wild fish populations and the communities that depend on fisheries.
