Critically endangered North Atlantic right whales are on the verge of extinction. Only 400 of these whales remain and 30 have died in the past three years. Entanglement in fishing gear and ship strikes are among the leading causes of death.

Fishing ropes have been seen entangled around North Atlantic right whales’ mouths, fins, tails and bodies. They cut into the whales’ flesh, which can lead to life-threatening infections and even death.

Together, we can help prevent this. Oceana is calling on the U.S. and Canadian governments to identify and implement sustainable fishing methods to save these whales. And with your help today, we can do even more.
