Make the Moment Tasteful, Not Wasteful

Mount Gay Rum + Oceana

An estimated 17.6 billion pounds of plastic enters the marine environment every year. That’s roughly equivalent to dumping a garbage truck full of plastic in the oceans every single minute! Oceana is working on solutions to the plastics crisis in our oceans, but we can’t do it alone.

We need everyone who shares a passion about the outdoors and loves being by the water to get involved. You probably already know that plastics never go away: They are made to last forever, but sometimes are only used for just a few moments.

So, as a small step toward saving our oceans from plastics, Mount Gay Rum is supporting Oceana’s efforts and asking you to pledge to become an advocate for the reduction of single-use plastics and to keep single-use plastics away from moments spent bonding with friends and family over a drink.

From its nautical beginnings, Mount Gay and its consumers have a deep connection with the ocean and together we can keep our oceans protected and flourishing.

Make an immediate impact with these five actionable steps, and take the More Taste, Less Waste pledge.

Whether I’m on the mountain, by the sea, at home or at the grocery store, I pledge to:
  1. Become an advocate for the reduction of plastics
  2. Skip on plastic straws and stirrers
  3. Cut fresh garnishes to enrich your cocktail and avoid those pre-packed in single-use plastics
  4. Use reusable cups, bottles, straws, stirrers and bags
  5. Get my friends and family to take the pledge
