Help #StopSeafoodFraud in Canada. Add your name to our petition calling on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to implement full boat-to-plate traceability for all seafood sold in Canada.
In 2017 and 2018, Oceana Canada tested nearly 400 seafood samples in five cities across Canada and found alarming rates of seafood fraud – 44 per cent of samples were mislabelled.
Seafood fraud includes any dishonest activity that misrepresents the product being purchased, including the practice of substituting one type of fish for another. Seafood fraud threatens public health and safety, cheats consumers and harms the ocean. It can even mask global human rights abuses by creating a market for illegally caught fish.
All fish sold in Canada should be legally caught, honestly labelled and fully traceable.
