URGE YOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST PLASTIC POLLUTION
Canada must be a leader in the fight against plastic pollution. It’s time to act.
Every minute, the equivalent of two dump trucks of plastic enters the ocean. Plastic pollution is now found in the deepest parts of the ocean, in the stomachs of whales and seabirds, in Arctic ice, and even in the air we breathe.
Single‑use plastics are killing ocean wildlife, contaminating food systems, and exposing people to toxic chemicals linked to serious health risks. Plastics, including microplastics, have been found in fish tested in the Great Lakes and in every major organ of the human body, including our brains and lungs. Scientists are increasingly linking plastic chemicals to cancer, hormone disruption, and infertility.
In January, the Federal Court of Appeal confirmed that the federal government has authority and a clear responsibility to regulate plastics that put the ocean and the environment at risk. This decision clears the way for long‑delayed action and gives Environment and Climate Change Canada a clear mandate to move forward.
Now we must make up for lost time. We can protect the ocean and ourselves from the devastating effects of plastic pollution.
Sign this petition today to send a letter to your Member of Parliament urging strong national action to:
- Phase out unnecessary single‑use plastics that end up in landfill and the ocean.
- Reduce plastic packaging in major polluting sectors such as grocery retail, beverage bottling, hospitality, and e‑commerce.
- Invest in Canadian refillable and reusable packaging businesses that strengthen a national circular economy and shorten supply chains.
