Protect essential marine habitat

Marine habitats are essential for ocean abundance, fighting climate change, and supporting thriving communities. They sustain fisheries and coastal jobs Canadians rely on, providing food security, cultural value, and recreation. Vast ancient coral forests, complex undersea mountains, deep-sea canyons, and vibrant coastal fjords are just some of the rich ecosystems found in Canada’s waters. Home to countless species — including endangered whales, sharks, sea turtles, and vital fish — these habitats provide shelter, food, and breeding grounds, essential to the health of our planet.

But these ecosystems are under increasing threat and need protection now. Safeguarding them will preserve — and help restore — the biodiversity that is crucial for healthy oceans. Canada must put in place strong, permanent measures to protect habitats from destructive activities such as oil and gas drilling, bottom trawling, and deep-sea mining.

Canada has shown leadership by committing to protect 30% of its ocean by 2030. With over 15% conserved to date, we’re halfway there — but reaching this goal will require strong ambition and public support.

Sign the petition today to urge Canada to deliver on its ocean protection commitments and secure a thriving, abundant ocean for future generations.

By adding your name, you’re supporting bold action to permanently protect essential marine habitats and help fulfil Canada’s 30x30 promise. Together, we can protect these vital ocean ecosystems.
