Help Reduce Plastic Pollution in Washington
Plastic pollution is a growing threat to the health of our oceans, communities, and climate. An estimated two garbage trucks of plastic enter our oceans every minute. Plastics found in our oceans can last for years and can choke or entangle marine animals like sea turtles and birds.
Right now, when Washingtonians make a purchase, it is likely that the products come with lots of packaging – much of which is single-use plastic. That packaging quickly becomes waste, which can end up polluting our waterways, coasts, and parks. Washington generates over 410,000 tons of plastic packaging each year, which is equivalent to 112 pounds of plastic per person. Less than 17% of that plastic gets recycled.
But a bill in the Washington State Legislature could help change this. The Washington Recycling Reform Act will reduce plastic packaging and pollution, protect the environment, and boost reuse.
By taking action now, you can help reduce plastic pollution in Washington and protect our coasts and waterways! Tell your state legislators to pass this bill now.
