The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is facing massive cuts to its funding, programs, staff, and mission. The Trump administration has proposed a 2027 budget that would eliminate more than $1.1 billion from NOAA — a 17% reduction. The proposal includes cutting $77 million for fisheries management and science. This would be on top of the 2026 reductions and the loss of more than 400 staff members last year that are already undermining NOAA Fisheries.
But why does this matter? NOAA is the government agency that manages our national fisheries, protects our coastal communities and infrastructure, monitors and forecasts our weather, and so much more. With a lack of information about severe weather events to convey timely and life-saving information, more lives and property could be lost in disasters. U.S. waters could become overfished, depleted, and empty. Endangered or threatened marine wildlife like North Atlantic right whales and Southern Resident orcas could go extinct.
Whether you live on a coast or in the heartland, these proposed cuts to NOAA will impact all Americans.
Congress stepped in last year to reject President Trump's reckless proposal and protect NOAA, they can do it again! Your representatives need to hear from you TODAY! Restore NOAA and its programs that are critical to our oceans, coastal communities, and severe weather alerts.
