President Biden recently permanently protected the East Coast, West Coast, eastern Gulf of Mexico, and areas off Alaska from the threat of offshore drilling. 

This announcement follows a longstanding bipartisan tradition of protecting our coasts. Previous presidents from both parties have withdrawn large areas from oil and gas leasing. In 2020, President Trump protected North Carolina through Florida for 10 years, but the protections were set to expire in 2032. President Biden’s announcement now permanently protects these areas and more.   

Oceana and its supporters have been campaigning for more than 15 years to protect our coasts and all those who rely on them from dirty and dangerous offshore drilling.
