PLEDGE TO TACKLE PLASTIC POLLUTION

The oceans are facing a massive and growing threat from something we all encounter every day: single-use plastics.

Did you know that more than eight million tonnes of plastic floods into our oceans every year? That’s roughly equivalent to dumping an entire garbage truck filled with plastics into the oceans every minute.

As a result, marine animals like fish, sea turtles, dolphins and seabirds are injured or killed by entanglements in or ingestion of plastic. While plastic production grows exponentially, and single use continues to pour into our oceans, there is still hope. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Now, you can help protect marine animals as well as communities and the environment. Oceana Canada’s new report, Breaking the Plastic Cycle, lays out a roadmap with solutions for how the government and key sectors can work together to eliminate one-third of our country’s plastic packaging waste.

We need your support to help make this a reality. Take the pledge to help the oceans by tackling single-use plastic pollution.

PLASTICS PLEDGE: I WILL...

  • Use my voice to tell decision-makers to support single-use plastic reduction policies.
  • Use reusable alternatives to single-use plastic when possible.
  • Refuse single-use plastic utensils and food containers whenever possible and advocate for plastic-free alternatives.
  • Support groups like Oceana Canada that fight to reduce plastic pollution.

I PLEDGE TO HELP OUR OCEANS BY DOING MY PART TO REDUCE SINGLE-USE PLASTIC.
