Wind Energy: Support Offshore Wind Development

The message of the BP oil spill couldn’t be clearer: America needs to end its dependence on dirty fossil fuels and transition to clean, alternative energy.
Make our oceans part of the solution by supporting investments in renewable energy, like offshore wind.
Please support a bill to facilitate clean energy development by providing essential tax incentives that would spur offshore wind development, and offer a clean energy alternative to offshore drilling.
Tell your Senators TODAY that you demand a clean energy future and urge their support of offshore wind development.
Dear Senator:
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has been a devastating reminder of the disastrous effects offshore drilling can have on the health of our environment, food sources, coastal economies, and marine life. The message is clear: offshore drilling is not the answer to our energy needs. Instead, it is time to finally transition our country from a dirty energy past to a clean energy future.
A recent Oceana report showed that offshore wind can provide domestic energy that is cleaner and more sustainable than offshore drilling, while creating permanent jobs and strengthening our economy. The report shows that offshore wind developments off the U.S. Atlantic coastline could create between 133,000 and 212,000 jobs per year right here in the United States. That is more than three times the jobs estimated to be created by expanding offshore oil and gas.
Additionally, the report finds that offshore wind potential off the U.S. Atlantic coast is so high that it can generate 30% more electricity than offshore oil and gas from the same region. Just a modest investment in offshore wind energy can supply nearly half the electricity demand of East coast states. It is time for America to invest in a clean energy future.
Senators Tom Carper, Olympia Snowe, Sherrod Brown, and Susan Collins have introduced a bipartisan piece of legislation that seeks to provide essential tax incentives that will spur investment and production of offshore wind energy. S.3062, the Carper-Snowe-Brown-Collins Offshore Wind Bill, encourages offshore wind energy by extending production and investment tax credits for offshore wind development until 2020. These tax credits provide much-needed stability in the offshore wind industry and signal to investors America's commitment to clean energy.
Our oceans can be part of the solution. I urge you to cosponsor S.3062 so that America can have a clean, safe and sustainable energy future.
