Stop bluefin tuna from getting hooked and trashed
Tell the National Marine Fisheries Service to protect bluefin tuna from deadly longlines
Bluefin tuna can swim at 50 miles per hour chasing their prey through the open ocean, and they can weigh in at 1,500 pounds. But these athletic fish are disappearing from our oceans.
Severely depleted from overfishing, these huge fish are further threatened by longlines intended to catch other species. Most of the captured bluefin end up thrown overboard, dead or dying.
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is considering changing the rules for longliners in the Gulf of Mexico and on the U.S. East coast, which could provide protection for bluefin tuna.
These fish need all the protection they can get. Send a letter of support to NMFS, asking them to pass proposed protections for bluefin tuna.
